Toolona Creek - Border Track loop

Lamington National Park, Queensland Australia

This is arguably the best day walk in Lamington National Park. Total distance is approximately 18.5km. Total height gain is 475m.

The loop took me 6 hours 30 minutes. This time included lunch an time for photographs.

Views of the canopy of the rainforest are rare. This view was afforded by a large tree fall.

Elabana Falls.

Strangler fig.

As you follow Toolona Creek you encounter literally dozens of waterfalls.

I lost track of which waterfall this was.

We cross Toolona Creek dozens of times,

along a very well formed track

that was excavated in the 1930's.

Yilgahn Falls.

Toolona Falls.

Wanungara Lookout (S 28deg 15.246', E 153deg 10.581', 1165m) - on the Border track which links O'Reilly's resort with Binna Burra Lodge.

Another view from Wanungara.

Antartic Beech.

Hoop Pine.

The walking trail takes you back past Mt Bithongabel, (S 28deg 15.889', E 153deg 10.384') 1125m to O'Reilly's at about 914m.

Back at the O'Reilly's Lodge (S 28deg 13.839', E 153deg 08.158') you can watch the sun set from your cabin balcony.

And the stars come out.

Good night.
