Sentry Box Mountain:
May 29, 2005.
A morning view from NW of the Sentry Box complex.

Once you get to the granite, the views really improve.
Looking SW Yaouk Pk from the SW edge of Sentry Box Mtn.

The truck is parked just right of this T- junction
35° 50.129' south, 148° 52.603' E, 3543m.

Lee Welling enjoying the view from Sentry Box Mtn.

The view from the summit of Sentry Box Mtn, 35° 49.517'S, 148° 53.829'E, 1696m.

View east from Sentry Box Mtn to a higher un-named expanse of granite I call Sentry Box East.
The highest point is 35° 49.458'S, 148° 54.401'E, 1727m.

The actual summit of Sentry Box Mtn - I call this Lunch Rock.
Sentry Box East is in the background (right).

Granite tors on Sentry Box East. - the ACT Stone Henge?

Granite water stains on the north facing side of Sentry Box East.
Lunch Rock is clearly visible in the background.

Ditto.

Looking back to Sentry Box Mtn - Lunch Rock.

Looking up at the route we just descended. Lunch Rock is just behind the front granite slab.
Note: Hike to the left (west) of the granite. - see "track notes".

Looking SW towards Yaouk Pk.

Setting sun.
Yaouk Valley is one of the most beautiful valleys on the Australian mainland. It is certainly one of the least known.
The truck is parked right just hidden behind this little hill.

Track notes: we did not visit Sentry Box Rock from which Sentry Box Mtn derives its name. The Rock is at: 35° 49.012'S, 148° 53.837'E, 1673m; the route we travelled took 5hrs 40mins and involved a total height gain of 884m; there is no track and in parts the terrain is difficult; the easiest route goes from the car park ENE to a ridge due WSW of Lunch Rock; head for a point 1/3 way north of Lunch Rock towards Sentry Box Rock; do NOT traverse due south of Lunch Rock, keep slightly west; also do NOT attempt to hike Harry's Gulch heading due north to the obvious saddle between Lunch Rock and Sentry Box East - the gulch is filled with bark covered (large) scree.
